“Creativity is everywhere,” says James Jorasch, one of the leading U.S. inventors and the most active living in New York City.
On the Season 4 premiere of the popular “Understanding IP Matters” podcast series, that dropped last week, Jorasch explains why invention is not restricted to engineers or “career” inventors, of which he is one.
The inventor, who was instrumental in establishing Priceline.com with Jay Walker, is one of the 100 most awarded recipients of U.S. patent grants, with 780 to date. His inventions cover a wide range of products and technologies from telecom to financial services, healthcare and casino gaming. His patents are owned or licensed by many companies including Facebook and eBay.

Jorasch’s preferred way of giving a new idea tangible meaning is rapid prototyping. “Prototyping does not have to be expensive or complicated,” he says. “For me it’s about seeing the idea take form and getting everyone on the same page.”
At Walker Digital, which was responsible for many seminal patents, Jorasch had a reputation for training recent college grads to become successful inventors.
He once formed an improv comedy team so that he could relax while not working, but it turned out to be a perfect mental exercise for free-thinking and facilitating brainstorming sessions.
Jorasch is Founder of Science House, an innovation and collaboration hub located in a four story midtown brownstone where he works and lives.
