Total IP CloseUp visits surpass 276,000 in 2020; readership is up for third year in a row

Despite the challenges of 2020, IP CloseUp visits increased for the third year in a row, to 36,150. This brought the total number since the blog was launched to over 276,000.

The 11% increase comes on top of at 7% in 2019. It was the fifth successive year of 30,000 or more visits for IP CloseUp. The cumulative total of 276K was achieved on just 494 posts.

IP CloseUp was read in 2020 in more than 100 nations. In addition to the U.S. the top countries were the UK, India, Canada, China, South Korea, Japan, Germany, Australia and Singapore

Most Read Posts

The most viewed post once again is Kearns’ Son Still Fuming Over Wiper Blade Fight at 7,330. Cumulative views of this post, which first appeared in 2015, surpassed 95,000 in 2020. 

Also popular was $21 trillion in U.S. Intangible Assets is 84% of S&P 500 Value — IP Rights and Reputation Included, with 4,931 views (see graph above).

Acquisition of ClearAccess by Spangenberg’s IPwe Could be a Harbinger of of Change in the Patent Space also generated high reader interest last year. It included mention of Google founder Sergey Brin and the acquisition of his wife’s company, ClearAccess IP, by former patent litigation king Erich Spangenberg’s company.

On the content side readers liked ‘Copyright is for Losers,’ says Street Artist Banksy; Some Trademarks Not. 

Another favorite, “‘Men of Progress’ Depicts U.S. Inventing’s Past, Present and Future” has now generated more than 1,200 visits.
