Intellectual property and entrepreneurs, China, diversity & inclusion and overlooked intangible asset value will be among topics addressed at the 4th Intellectual Property Awareness Summit, April 28th and 29th. The registration fee is waived this year.
Senator Thom Tillis, Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Intellectual Property and will open the event. IPAS 2021 will be held virtually and feature a total of 18 thought-leaders from a range of disciplines. This year’s theme is ‘IP and the lives it touches’.
Four panels will be held over two days with a keynote speaker on each day. IPAS 2021 will feature leading IP owners, educators, investors and creators.
Policymakers, investors and more
More than 200 persons are expected to attend, including policymakers, investors, educators and students. Day Two keynote is James E. West, Hall of Fame inventor, acoustician and former Bell Labs researcher, who will talk about generating new ideas, minorities and inclusion.
Senator Tillis of North Carolina holds a deep understanding of technology, commerce and policy, having had a 29-year career serving as a top-level executive at PricewaterhouseCoopers and IBM. As Chair of the Senate IP Subcommittee in the 116th Congress, Senator Tillis held 140 stakeholder meetings and 17 Senate hearings on IP topics, and introduced draft legislative
text on reforms to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. His subcommittee held three hearings in 2019 on the state of patent eligibility and heard from 45 witnesses. Senator Tillis was elected as U.S. Senator to North Carolina in 2014.

Kelly, III, former Chief Technology Officer at IBM; China IP experts Mark Cohen and Hon. Randall R. Rader, Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, ret.; and Lisa D. Cook, author of Violence and Economic Activity: Evidence from African American Patents 1870 to 1940.
